
Kolkata, September 12, 2026: Valappen Creations has announced the official selection of its two Malayalam feature films, ‘Nizhal Vyaparikal’ (Shadow Merchants) and ‘Swaleeh’, at the Swami Vivekananda International Film Festival in Kolkata. Both films received an encouraging response from audiences during the festival, highlighting the growing presence of independent Malayalam cinema on the national and international festival circuit.
‘Nizhal Vyaparikal’, produced and directed by Shaju Valappen under the banner of Valappen Creations, explores contemporary social realities through a distinctive cinematic approach. The film has been appreciated for its artistic presentation, storytelling and social perspective.
‘Swaleeh’, produced by Shaju Valappen and directed by Siddik Paravoor, is a humanistic and socially conscious drama that explores themes of compassion, dignity, faith, coexistence and social understanding. Through deeply rooted characters and an emotionally engaging narrative, the film seeks to build bridges of understanding across communities and cultures.
The film has already earned recognition at several film festivals and received multiple honours for its meaningful narrative and artistic excellence. Its selection at the Swami Vivekananda International Film Festival further adds to its growing festival journey.
Speaking about the selection, Shaju Valappen said that it was a matter of great honour and happiness for the entire team. He noted that cinema has the power to connect people beyond language and geographical boundaries and expressed hope that the film would encourage meaningful conversations around humanity, compassion and coexistence.
Director Siddik Paravoor expressed gratitude to the festival organisers and selection committee, describing the recognition as a tribute to the dedication and hard work of the entire cast and crew.

The cinematography of both films was handled by Jaleel Badusha, whose visual treatment has received appreciation from audiences and critics. Dr. Anaswara played the lead female role in both productions, delivering performances noted for their emotional depth, authenticity and strength.
Over the past several months, both ‘Nizhal Vyaparikal’ and ‘Swaleeh’ have received recognition and awards at different film festivals, reflecting the growing appreciation for the creative efforts behind the productions.
