Kolkata, July 24, 2026: The fifth National Inter-School Moot Court Competition, organised by BML Munjal University (BMU) and hosted by The Future Foundation School, Kolkata, concluded successfully with participation from 84 teams representing 58 schools from across India. The event provided a national platform for students to sharpen their legal reasoning, advocacy and courtroom skills while debating one of the most significant constitutional issues of the digital era—AI-driven surveillance, privacy and civil liberties.
Students from Kolkata, Asansol, Dhanbad, Guwahati, Surat, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Gaya and Chennai engaged in simulated courtroom proceedings, presenting arguments on constitutional provisions related to Articles 14, 19 and 21. The fictional case challenged participants to examine the balance between technological advancement, individual privacy and democratic rights.
After several competitive rounds, Ashok Hall Girls Higher Secondary School, Kolkata emerged as the overall champion. The BSS School, Kolkata secured the first runner-up position, while Delhi Public School, Howrah and Asansol North Point School finished as the second and third runners-up, respectively. The Most Promising Team award was jointly presented to Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok and Vivekananda Mission School, Joka, Kolkata.
The competition was judged by a distinguished six-member panel from BMU’s School of Law, comprising academicians with educational backgrounds from globally renowned institutions, including the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Melbourne Law School, National University of Singapore, and leading National Law Universities in India. Teams were assessed on legal research, interpretation of constitutional principles, advocacy skills and their ability to respond effectively to judicial questioning.
Speaking on the occasion, Mathew John, Dean, School of Law, BML Munjal University, said the competition has become an integral part of the university’s commitment to experiential learning, enabling school students to engage with complex legal issues while developing analytical thinking, advocacy and confidence through courtroom simulations.
Suchandra Laha, Principal of The Future Foundation School, said the competition has grown remarkably since its launch in 2023—from just 14 participating teams to more than 80 teams from across the country. She noted that the moot court serves as a powerful platform for nurturing constitutional values, critical thinking, legal research and respect for justice, liberty and equality among young learners.
First launched in January 2023, the National Inter-School Moot Court Competition has evolved into one of India’s largest platforms introducing school students to legal advocacy and constitutional reasoning. The fifth edition further reinforced the importance of informed debate, research-based arguments and responsible engagement with contemporary legal issues, particularly as discussions around artificial intelligence, digital governance and privacy rights continue to gain national and global significance.
