Kolkata 26 November 2025 :
The Lions Club of Kolkata Grand, District 322B1, today announced the second edition of its community initiative — ‘Lionathon 2.0 – We Serve Walk to Serve’ — aimed at raising awareness and support for children battling childhood cancer. The announcement was made during a press conference held in Kolkata.
The flagship walkathon will take place on 7th December 2025, starting from Deshapriya Park, bringing together citizens, organisations and supporters to advocate timely diagnosis and treatment for young cancer fighters.
Highlighting the alarming rise in cases, the organisers stated that over 75,000 children in India are diagnosed with cancer every year, with delayed detection and limited awareness posing a serious challenge to effective treatment. Early intervention, they stressed, significantly improves survival rates.
“Lionathon 2.0 is not just a walk — it is a collective movement of empathy and responsibility,” said Lion Ajit Baid, President of Lions Club of Kolkata Grand. “No child should fight this battle alone. This initiative aims to ensure every young patient gets timely medical attention and community support.”
Chairperson Lion Neetu Baid emphasised the club’s expanded focus this year:
“Creating an aware and compassionate society can change the future of thousands of children. Alongside the walkathon, we are committed to providing free cervical vaccinations to 1,000 underprivileged children, promoting preventive healthcare.”
“The walk is a symbol of hope and togetherness,” shared Lion Sushil Soni, Secretary. “Awareness can save lives, and through Lionathon we want communities to stand strong with families facing immense challenges.”

Treasurer Lion GirirAj Chandak added, “Every step we take reinforces our pledge to serve humanity with purpose. Our goal is to drive sustained impact and encourage proactive health practices.”
The organisers also unveiled the official route for Lionathon 2.0:
Deshapriya Park South Gate → Southern Avenue → Golpark Crossing → Gariahat Crossing → Rashbehari Avenue → Sarat Bose Road → Lions Children Corner.
The event concluded with a heartfelt appeal to citizens to participate in the walk, championing awareness, strength and solidarity — and striving for a future where no child has to face cancer alone.
