
Kolkata, September 16, 2026: Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute of Technology and Sports Complex (SurTech), a JIS Group Educational Initiative, hosted a Young Innovators STEM Lab (YISL) Workshop on Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), with support from the Public Diplomacy Section of the United States Department of State, New Delhi.
The workshop aimed to promote innovation, creativity and experiential STEM education, giving students an opportunity to explore emerging technologies through hands-on learning and practical applications.
The programme was attended by Dr. Chaitali Bhattacharya, Interim Executive Director & Chief Science Officer, Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF); Smt. Priya Thomas, Senior Program Officer, IUSSTF; Shri Dharam Raj Panwar, Co-Founder, STEAM Varsity; and Prof. (Dr.) Sardindu Panda, Principal, SurTech, JIS Group, along with facilitators from STEAM Varsity.
During the workshop, students gained practical exposure to AR/VR development, WebXR, 3D environments, immersive technologies and Meta Quest headsets. They also participated in design thinking, prototyping and team-based problem-solving activities, enabling them to understand emerging technologies through real-world applications.
The programme was conducted in association with JIS Drone Academy (RPTO), further strengthening SurTech’s focus on emerging technologies, practical education and industry-oriented learning.
The initiative reflects JIS Group and SurTech’s continued efforts to strengthen STEM education, innovation and experiential learning, while equipping students with future-ready skills for an evolving technology landscape.
