Kolkata: Global mobility platform inDrive has launched ‘Toto Quick’ in Kolkata, introducing a new ride category designed to make short-distance travel more convenient, affordable and transparent. Inspired by the city’s popular toto (e-rickshaw) culture, the service allows passengers to negotiate fares directly with drivers instead of relying on fixed algorithm-based pricing.
The newly launched Toto Quick offers doorstep-to-destination rides for up to four passengers, with fares starting from ₹35–40. Through the inDrive app, users can view nearby drivers, compare their ratings and experience, negotiate the fare, and choose the ride that best suits their needs. Drivers, in turn, retain the freedom to accept rides based on their own preferences.
The company said the initiative is aimed at preserving Kolkata’s long-standing culture of fair bargaining while enhancing transparency and convenience through technology. By extending its peer-to-peer pricing model to e-rickshaw services, inDrive seeks to provide commuters with greater control over their travel costs.
Speaking on the launch, Avik Karmakar, Country Manager, India, inDrive, said, “Kolkata already knows how to negotiate a fair ride. The toto has always run on trust and a bit of back-and-forth between driver and passenger. With Toto Quick, we’re simply bringing that everyday habit into the app, giving people another quick and reliable way to get around the city, with complete transparency on price, rating and experience before they even get in.”
The launch aligns with inDrive’s global philosophy of empowering users with the freedom to negotiate fares rather than being subjected to automatically generated prices. The company believes the feature will make short-distance urban travel more flexible, fair and user-friendly for both passengers and drivers.
Toto Quick is now available for passengers across Kolkata through the inDrive mobile application.
