Kolkata | June 30, 2026: Manipal Hospitals Kolkata showcased the next generation of healthcare by hosting an advanced Robotic Simulation Workshop, demonstrating how robotic-assisted surgery is transforming modern medicine with greater precision, enhanced safety, and faster patient recovery.
Held under the theme “The Future is Here – with Robotic Surgery at Manipal Hospitals,” the event brought together leading surgeons, technology experts, academicians, and healthcare professionals to explore the latest advancements in robotic-assisted procedures across multiple specialties.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ayanabh Debgupta, Regional Director, Manipal Hospitals East. The event was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Kumar Pratihar, Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, as Chief Guest, along with Prof. (Dr.) Sushmita Mitra as Special Guest.
Senior specialists highlighted the growing role of robotics in cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, orthopaedics, urology, and gynaecology, explaining how advanced technology is enabling surgeons to perform highly complex procedures with greater accuracy and improved clinical outcomes.
A key highlight was the unveiling of Manipal Hospitals Salt Lake’s new robotic surgery team, which will lead robotic-assisted procedures across multiple specialties in the region.
The event also featured a live Robotic Simulation Lab, where participants experienced globally advanced robotic platforms, including Da Vinci Xi, Mako, Velys, and ROSA. Live demonstrations showcased how these technologies enhance surgical planning, improve implant positioning, reduce blood loss, minimize post-operative pain, and support faster patient recovery.
Addressing the gathering, experts emphasized that robotics and artificial intelligence are not replacing doctors but empowering surgeons with better precision, clinical decision-making, and minimally invasive treatment options while keeping patient safety at the forefront.
Speaking on robotic oncology, Dr. Sourav Datta said robotic technology is significantly improving cancer surgery by enabling greater precision, reducing complications, and accelerating recovery. Orthopaedic expert Dr. Vikash Kapoor highlighted that Manipal Hospitals EM Bypass has successfully performed over 1,500 robotic knee replacement surgeries in the past two years, reflecting the growing acceptance of technology-driven orthopaedic care.
The workshop concluded with hands-on simulation sessions and expert interactions, reaffirming Manipal Hospitals’ commitment to advancing precision-based healthcare and bringing world-class robotic surgical innovation closer to patients across eastern India.
