Apollo Hospitals Kolkata Introduces Precision Partial Knee Reconstruction, Transforming Orthopedic Care

Kolkata, June 12: In a significant advancement in orthopedic treatment, has introduced Precision Partial Knee Reconstruction Surgery at its Kolkata facility, offering patients a highly effective and minimally invasive alternative to conventional total knee replacement procedures.

The breakthrough was announced during a medical briefing led by senior orthopedic specialists, including Dr Ranjan Kamilya and Dr Soumen Kar. The experts highlighted how the advanced technique targets only the damaged portion of the knee while preserving healthy bone, ligaments, and surrounding tissues, resulting in a more natural joint function and faster recovery.

According to specialists, the procedure, known as Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR), is supported by long-term international studies showing a 93% implant survival rate after 10 years and 89% after 15 years. Patients undergoing the surgery are also significantly less likely to experience major post-operative complications compared to those receiving total knee replacement.

Doctors noted that changing lifestyles, reduced physical activity, and increased joint stress are contributing to a rise in knee degeneration among younger adults. Current data indicates that knee osteoarthritis affects between 22% and 39% of adults, with prevalence rising to nearly 50% among people over 60 years of age.

The new precision-based approach enables shorter hospital stays, reduced post-surgical discomfort, and a quicker return to normal activities, with many patients resuming light daily tasks and low-impact sports within four to six weeks.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Kamilya emphasized that many patients suffering from knee damage do not necessarily require a complete knee replacement. By preserving healthy joint structures, Precision Partial Knee Reconstruction can deliver better mobility, faster rehabilitation, and a more natural-feeling knee.

With the launch of this advanced procedure, Apollo Hospitals Kolkata aims to redefine orthopedic treatment standards and provide personalized, technology-driven care that improves mobility and enhances patients’ quality of life.
