Kolkata, July 29: Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute of Technology and Sports Complex (SurTech), an initiative of JIS Group, successfully hosted the East Zonal Competitions of TECHNOXIAN 2026, the 10th edition of the World Robotics Championship, at its Dum Dum campus. Organised in association with the World Robotics Organization (WORSO), the two-day event brought together more than 500 participants representing over 100 teams from schools and colleges across Eastern India, making it one of the region’s largest robotics championships.
The championship featured a wide range of robotics contests, innovation challenges and hands-on STEM activities, providing young innovators with an opportunity to demonstrate their technical expertise, creativity and problem-solving abilities. The event was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Debdutta Guha, General Manager, MSME Technology Centre (Tool Room), Government of India; Raj Sharma, President, All India Council for Robotics & Automation; Alka Sachdeva, Vice President, All India Council for Robotics & Automation; Prof. (Dr.) Debasish De of MAKAUT; Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director of JIS Group; and Prof. (Dr.) Saradindu Panda, Principal of SurTech.
A major highlight of the championship was the unveiling of SURVIA, an indigenously developed robot designed at the AICTE IDEA Lab of SurTech. Developed through advanced research and innovation, the robot reflects the institution’s commitment to promoting indigenous technology, research excellence and industry-oriented learning. Another key attraction was the launch of the Wind and Solar Driven Mobile Charging Unit, jointly developed by the Centre of Excellence (COE) – Livid Design Inc. and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SurTech. The sustainable innovation underscores the institution’s focus on clean energy solutions and industry-academia collaboration to address real-world challenges.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director of JIS Group, said that innovation begins with curiosity and platforms like TECHNOXIAN inspire young minds to transform ideas into meaningful technological solutions. He reaffirmed JIS Group’s commitment to nurturing future-ready talent by encouraging research, innovation and practical learning. He added that the launch of SURVIA and the renewable energy-powered mobile charging unit reflects the institution’s vision of creating an ecosystem where creativity, technological excellence and research continue to thrive.
TECHNOXIAN 2026 provided an ideal platform for aspiring roboticists, engineers and technology enthusiasts to interact with peers, mentors and industry experts while gaining hands-on exposure to emerging technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence and automation. The championship further reinforced Eastern India’s growing prominence as a hub for technological innovation and future-ready education.
