Kolkata, April 23:
Reinforcing its enduring commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, the St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) carried forward its flagship humanitarian initiative, “Ripples of Hope – Small Acts, Endless Impacts,” with a meaningful outreach program at Ashabari (Calcutta Home of Hope) in Nepalganj, South 24 Parganas.

The initiative, part of SXCCAA’s structured monthly social service calendar, reflects a sustained effort to reach out to marginalized and vulnerable communities with empathy, dignity, and tangible support. Drawing inspiration from the leadership of Reverend Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, President of SXCCAA, the association continues to mobilize its alumni network towards impactful, purpose-driven social action.

Ashabari, established in 1999, stands as a vital refuge for nearly 100 destitute, homeless, and chronically ill individuals rescued from the streets. Beyond providing shelter, the institution plays a crucial rehabilitative role by offering medical care, emotional support, and reintegration opportunities. A key feature of its services is a free weekly outpatient clinic, which extends healthcare access to those otherwise unable to afford it.

During the visit, SXCCAA members engaged directly with residents, gaining insight into their lives and challenges while reaffirming a shared sense of humanity. Addressing the gathering, Reverend Dr. Dominic Savio emphasized the deeper philosophy behind the initiative, stating:
“Ripples of Hope is not merely a program—it is a reflection of our core values and our collective moral responsibility. Each visit reminds us that even the smallest act of kindness can trigger a powerful chain of positive change. Our presence here today is a message that every individual matters, and that compassion must translate into action.”

The outreach program also featured the distribution of essential supplies under the coordination of Honorary Secretary Mr. Sanjeev Koner. Alumni members provided food items, clothing, hygiene kits, and bedding materials to the residents—resources made possible through generous contributions from the SXCCAA community and well-wishers. This collaborative spirit underscores the strength of alumni-driven philanthropy and its capacity to create real-world impact.

“Ripples of Hope” has steadily evolved into a dynamic platform for sustained social intervention. By actively involving alumni in a wide spectrum of humanitarian efforts—including visits to orphanages and old-age homes, educational support for underprivileged children, and skill development initiatives for women—the program fosters a culture of responsible citizenship and collective empathy.

In recent months alone, the initiative has touched hundreds of lives, delivering not just material assistance but also a renewed sense of dignity and belonging to those often overlooked by society. The Ashabari outreach further adds to this growing legacy of meaningful engagement.

As SXCCAA continues to expand the reach of “Ripples of Hope,” the initiative stands as a compelling testament to the power of unity, compassion, and sustained effort. It reinforces a simple yet profound message: that even small, consistent acts of kindness can create lasting waves of change—ensuring that hope, care, and dignity reach every corner of society where they are needed most.
