Soumen’s Workout Declares War on Tobacco and Obesity in Kolkata Rally

Kolkata, 31 May, 2025 :
In a bold and symbolic stand against the rising health threats of tobacco use and obesity, Soumen’s Workout—one of Kolkata’s prominent fitness institutions—led the 14th Annual World No Tobacco Day Rally on Saturday. With the theme “Condemn Tobacco and Obesity Like India Condemns Terrorism – Let’s Fight Today for a Better Tomorrow”, the rally aimed to ignite a nationwide movement advocating for a healthier, addiction-free future.
The rally commenced at Rani Rashmoni Road and concluded at the Victoria Memorial, witnessing participation from hundreds, including schoolchildren, fitness enthusiasts, NGOs, and local community leaders. Participants marched with banners and placards, raising slogans to promote awareness about the silent dangers of tobacco and lifestyle-related diseases.

Mr. Soumen Das, Proprietor of Soumen’s Workout, addressed the gathering and stressed the urgency of the issue.
“Tobacco and obesity are silent enemies—destroying lives slowly. We must condemn them with the same passion and urgency with which our nation condemns terrorism,” he said. “This is not just a rally; it’s a declaration of war against habits that kill. Let’s fight today so our children can live better tomorrow.”
The event highlighted grim statistics, including findings from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey 2019, which revealed that 8.4% of school-going children aged 13–15 in India consume tobacco. Tobacco use remains a leading cause of preventable deaths, claiming approximately 3,600 Indian lives daily.
Kreamz, a popular food brand, joined the initiative as the official food partner, supporting the health-focused event by offering nutritious refreshments to attendees.
Beyond the annual No Tobacco Day event, Soumen’s Workout continues its commitment to health awareness through nationwide campaigns such as International Yoga Day, Anti-Obesity Day, and the ‘Jago India Jago’ fitness movement.
This year’s rally sent a strong message: building a healthier India begins with personal choices and collective action starting today.
