Howrah, February 27, 2026: In a significant step towards advancing nursing education in Eastern India, Westbank School of Nursing (established in 2012) and Westbank College of Nursing (established in 2020) have been officially merged and renamed as College & School of Nursing – Narayana Hospital, a unit of the Asia Heart Foundation.
The newly unified institution operates under a consolidated academic and administrative framework and is affiliated with the West Bengal Nursing Council, the Indian Nursing Council, and the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
The College currently offers a comprehensive range of programmes including GNM, B.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic Diplomas in Oncology, Cardiothoracic, Paediatric and Neurology Nursing. At the postgraduate level, M.Sc. programmes are available in Medical Surgical Nursing (Oncology and Critical Care Speciality) and Paediatric Nursing.
In line with evolving healthcare demands, the institution is also in the process of introducing two advanced practice programmes — Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care and Nurse Practitioner in Anaesthesia — designed to strengthen specialised nursing capacity in high-acuity and perioperative care settings.
The merger brings all nursing education initiatives under one unified banner, enabling streamlined curriculum delivery, enhanced clinical exposure within the Narayana Hospital ecosystem, and a sharper focus on specialised skill development aligned with emerging healthcare needs.

Shampa Gupta, Principal, College & School of Nursing – Narayana Hospital (Unit of Asia Heart Foundation), said, “This merger strengthens our academic foundation and clinical training framework. With the introduction of advanced practice programmes, we aim to prepare highly skilled, compassionate nursing professionals equipped to meet the evolving demands of modern healthcare.”
With this consolidation and academic expansion, the institution aims to elevate nursing education standards across Eastern India while contributing meaningfully to building a future-ready healthcare workforce for the region.
