Kolkata, October 5, 2026: The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) Kolkata Chapter, in collaboration with the West Bengal Fire & Emergency Services Department, organised Fire Safety Connect 2026, bringing restaurant operators and senior Fire Department officials together for a focused discussion on fire safety regulations and compliance requirements.
The interaction provided NRAI members with an opportunity to directly raise concerns related to pending Fire Safety Recommendations and NOCs, renewals, documentation, applications, Fire Licences and certificates, self-certification, and other procedural requirements before the concerned officials.
During the session, officials also explained the processes and documentation required for various fire safety services. A key focus was placed on the availability of online mechanisms, through which businesses can submit applications, upload necessary documents and track the status of their cases through the prescribed channels.
The discussion also covered the self-certification provisions applicable to eligible eateries with seating capacity of up to 75 persons and a total floor area of up to 2,000 sq. ft., subject to applicable fire safety norms and requirements.
The programme witnessed the participation of senior officials from the West Bengal Fire & Emergency Services Department, including Abhijit Pandey, ADG; Shyam Chandra Mondal, DIC; Saroj Bagh, North DO; Ranjan Ghosh, DO AFP1 HQFS; Arun Patanayak, OC HQFS; and Sudipta Mukherjee, HQ Station Officer.
Speaking on the initiative, Piyush Kankaria, Chapter Head, NRAI Kolkata Chapter, said that fire safety compliance involves multiple requirements, including NOCs, renewals, licences, documentation and applications. He emphasised that while restaurant businesses remain committed to meeting regulatory requirements, they often require clarity regarding specific procedures and applicable norms.
According to Kankaria, NRAI’s role is to help its members understand these requirements and connect with the appropriate authorities. He said that Fire Safety Connect 2026 provided a platform for members to directly interact with Fire Department officials, understand the required procedures and address compliance-related queries.
The initiative reflects NRAI Kolkata’s continued efforts to support restaurant businesses in understanding regulatory requirements and accessing the appropriate channels for compliance-related matters. It also underlines the importance of regular dialogue between the restaurant industry and regulatory authorities to address practical challenges and promote better compliance.
