Jindal (India) Limited Achieves 1.6 MTPA Downstream Steel Capacity with ₹50 Crore CGL-5 Revamp

Ranihati, West Bengal, October 27, 2026: Jindal (India) Limited, part of the BC Jindal Group, has successfully commissioned its revamped Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL-5) at its Ranihati manufacturing facility in West Bengal, following an investment of ₹50 crore. The modernisation has increased the line’s production capacity by 51%, from 590 tonnes per day (TPD) to 889 TPD, while also marking the commencement of prime coil production at the facility.

With this latest enhancement, the company’s coated sheet manufacturing capacity has reached approximately 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Combined with its pipe manufacturing capacity of around 0.5 MTPA, Jindal (India) Limited’s overall downstream steel manufacturing capacity now stands at approximately 1.6 MTPA, strengthening its position in India’s steel products industry.

As part of the revamp, the company has more than doubled the line’s furnace capacity, increasing it from 22 tonnes per hour to 45 tonnes per hour. The line speed has also been upgraded from 150 to 200 metres per minute. Additional improvements include an Electrolytic Cleaning Line (ECL), a second recoiler, higher strip accumulation capacity, an enhanced heating furnace and improved cooling performance—all implemented within the constraints of the existing facility.

The project was completed in just 59 days, 11 days ahead of the planned 70-day schedule, highlighting the company’s focus on operational efficiency and timely project execution.

A BC Jindal Group spokesperson said, “The successful commissioning of the revamped CGL-5 is an important milestone in our ongoing journey of capacity enhancement and modernisation. The increase in production capacity from 590 TPD to 889 TPD strengthens our ability to cater to the growing demand for value-added coated steel products. With our overall downstream steel manufacturing capacity now at around 1.6 MTPA, we have built a stronger manufacturing platform for the next phase of our growth. As we approach our Platinum Jubilee year in 2027, our focus will remain on enhancing our product capabilities, adopting advanced technologies and creating greater value for our customers.”

The latest development builds on Jindal (India) Limited’s continued investments in strengthening its manufacturing capabilities. The company operates two modern facilities at Jangalpur and Ranihati in Howrah, West Bengal, with advanced colour-coating and metal-coating technologies.

Its diversified product portfolio spans sheets, pipes and aluminium foil, supported by established brands such as Jindal Sabrang and Jindal NeuColor+. The company has a strong presence in the colour-coated sheets market, particularly in Eastern India, and is expanding its reach across the country. Coated flat steel products account for approximately 70% of its total production and remain a key focus area for future growth.

With a pan-India expansion strategy, Jindal (India) Limited is strengthening its presence in North and West India, driven by opportunities arising from infrastructure development and industrial projects. Founded in 1952, the company is part of the BC Jindal Group, an Indian conglomerate with interests in packaging films, energy and steel products.

The successful commissioning of CGL-5 marks another step in the company’s long-term strategy to expand capacity, modernise manufacturing operations and meet the evolving needs of customers across India.
