Eastern India’s First MyCLIP Transcatheter Mitral & Tricuspid Valve Repair Successfully Performed in Kolkata

Kolkata, December 19, 2025:
In a landmark breakthrough for Indian structural heart care, Eastern India’s first MyCLIP Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (MTEER) procedure was successfully performed on a high-risk cardiac patient at Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass. The pioneering intervention was led by renowned interventional cardiologist Dr. Dilip Kumar, marking a significant milestone in minimally invasive valve therapy.

The patient, Mr. Ramswaroop, a 60-year-old male, was suffering from an extremely complex cardiac condition, including dilated cardiomyopathy with a severely reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of 25%, severe mitral regurgitation, severe tricuspid regurgitation, pulmonary hypertension, hypertension, and minor coronary artery disease. Given the critical nature of his condition, conventional open-heart surgery posed an unacceptably high risk and was ruled out.

National First: Tricuspid Valve Treated with MyCLIP

The procedure holds national significance as it represents India’s first successful tricuspid valve repair using the MyCLIP system, in addition to being the first MyCLIP MTEER procedure in Eastern India. The minimally invasive intervention was performed via femoral venous access, without opening the chest, using the MyCLIP (LW-12/6) device. The procedure resulted in a dramatic reduction of severe mitral regurgitation to a trivial grade, with marked improvement in overall valve function.

Rapid Recovery and Improved Quality of Life

Prior to the intervention, the patient experienced severe breathlessness even with minimal exertion, extreme fatigue, inability to lie flat, disturbed sleep, and persistent chest discomfort—severely impairing daily life. Following the procedure, he showed rapid clinical improvement, with comfortable breathing, better sleep, minimal pain, and stable hemodynamics, allowing for early discharge.

Designed specifically for patients with severe mitral regurgitation—particularly elderly or inoperable patients—the device helps approximate valve leaflets, preventing backward blood flow and significantly improving cardiac function and quality of life.
