A one-day training workshop on the practical application of the new criminal laws was organised on Wednesday by the Basirhat Police District with the objective of enhancing the professional knowledge and skills of police officers.
Mohammad Nurjaman Khan, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), North 24 Parganas, was invited as a key speaker for the important training programme. He was requested to provide valuable knowledge, practical experience and guidance on the new criminal laws.
One of the key objectives of the training was to provide police officers involved in field-level investigations, prosecution-related work and law-and-order duties with a clearer understanding of the practical aspects of the new legal framework.
The training session covered various important and practical aspects of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA). Discussions focused particularly on investigation procedures, requirements relating to evidence, procedural safeguards, provisions concerning victims and witnesses, and the use of electronic and digital evidence.
The session also addressed several practical challenges commonly faced by police officers during field-level operations. Through his address, the DLSA Secretary emphasised that the provisions of the new criminal laws should not be understood merely from a theoretical perspective, but should also be effectively applied in actual investigations and day-to-day police operations.
The workshop aimed to strengthen awareness and develop a practical understanding among participating officers regarding the effective implementation of the new criminal justice framework.
