
Kolkata, October 6, 2026: Renowned Bengali sweets brand Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick Sweet Pvt. Ltd. has received formal approval from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for the reinstatement of its factory licence at the B.L. Saha Road premises.
The announcement was made at a press conference in Kolkata, where Goutam Mullick, Sole Proprietor & Director, and Rishav Mullick, Director, addressed the media and detailed the corrective measures undertaken at the facility following observations raised by the authorities.
Major Food Safety and Hygiene Measures Undertaken
According to the company, several corrective and preventive measures have been implemented to strengthen food safety, hygiene and operational standards.
These include medical examinations and necessary typhoid vaccinations for food-handling staff, strengthened food preparation and handling practices, and the replacement of open waste bins with designated blue dry-waste and green wet-waste bins.
The company has also made the use of aprons, gloves and headgear mandatory for employees involved in food preparation and handling.
A date-tagging system has been introduced for prepared and semi-prepared food items to improve monitoring, storage and traceability. Regular pest-control measures have also been implemented with proper documentation and scheduled inspections.
The company further stated that covered crates and food-grade containers are now being used for safer storage and handling of ingredients and food products.
Infrastructure upgrades have also been carried out at the factory, including tiling work and necessary repairs and improvements to the chimney and ducting systems.
Company Clarifies Scope of Regulatory Action
The company clarified that the recent regulatory action was specific to its B.L. Saha Road factory premises and did not extend to its Tollygunge outlet or other outlets.
According to the management, each outlet has its respective FSSAI approvals and continues to operate independently in accordance with applicable food safety and regulatory requirements. The company specifically reiterated that the Tollygunge outlet was not suspended under the regulatory action concerning the B.L. Saha Road facility.

Speaking at the press conference, Goutam Mullick said that food safety, hygiene and quality have always been an integral part of the company’s operations.
He said the company acted on the observations raised by the authorities and undertook necessary corrective measures, including strengthening infrastructure and operational processes. He also expressed satisfaction over receiving formal approval for the reinstatement of the FSSAI licence and the resumption of factory operations.
