
Kolkata: Calcutta Boys’ School (CBS), one of the city’s premier educational institutions renowned for its legacy of academic excellence and value-based education, celebrated its Annual Speech Day and Award Ceremonies 2026 with grandeur, recognising outstanding student achievements in academics, co-curricular activities and leadership. The event reaffirmed the school’s commitment to nurturing future-ready, responsible and compassionate citizens.
The Senior School ceremony featured inspiring performances by the CBS Choir, a multimedia presentation titled “The Year in Retrospect”, and the presentation of prestigious awards and scholarships honouring exceptional academic and all-round excellence. Among the top achievers felicitated were Somdev Sinha Roy, who scored 99% in the ICSE 2026 examinations, and Devayush Podder, who secured 99% in the ISC 2026 examinations.
The event was graced by Dr. Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, and an alumnus of Calcutta Boys’ School (Batch of 1987), as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included Bishop Dr. C. Selvin and Tamoghna Ghosh, District President, BJP North Kolkata. In his Annual Speech and Welcome Address, Principal and Secretary Raja McGee applauded the collective efforts of students, parents, teachers and staff, emphasising that education is not confined to classrooms but is equally about building character, confidence, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay reflected on the pivotal role Calcutta Boys’ School played in shaping his life by instilling discipline, integrity and a spirit of excellence. He highlighted the significance of the national motto “Satyameva Jayate”, expressed pride in India’s rich cultural and democratic heritage, and spoke about the country’s contributions across literature, science and public life, including the legacy of Rabindranath Tagore. He also noted that he is the fourth alumnus of Calcutta Boys’ School to serve as a minister, describing it as a matter of immense pride.
The ceremony concluded on a celebratory note, honouring the achievements of students while reinforcing Calcutta Boys’ School’s enduring reputation as a centre of academic distinction, cultural enrichment and holistic education dedicated to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
