The 166th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated with grandeur, cultural vibrancy, and emotional fervour at Bidhan Shishu Udyan on Sunday. Like every year, the institution organised an elaborate Rabindra Jayanti celebration that brought together children, parents, artists, and cultural enthusiasts in a memorable tribute to the legendary poet, philosopher, and visionary.

The programme was organised under the banner of Bidhan Kalakendra and featured a wide range of cultural performances dedicated to the timeless works of Rabindranath Tagore. Young participants and members of the organisation performed dance recitals, Rabindra Sangeet, group songs, and poetry recitations, creating an atmosphere filled with devotion towards Bengali culture and heritage. The performances reflected the enduring influence of Tagore’s literature, music, and ideals on generations of Bengalis.

One of the major highlights of the evening was a special musical presentation by the Bidhan Choir, which received warm appreciation from the audience. The choir’s rendition of Tagore’s compositions added depth and emotion to the celebration, turning the event into a heartfelt cultural gathering.

The function witnessed an overwhelming response, with nearly 600 guests in attendance, including child members of the institution, guardians, invited guests, and residents from different parts of the city. The colourful decorations, traditional attire, and soulful cultural performances transformed the venue into a vibrant centre of Bengali tradition and artistic expression.

Speaking on the occasion, Gautam Talukdar extended congratulations to the newly formed BJP government in West Bengal and also conveyed his best wishes to the new Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

“Coincidentally, a new BJP government has been formed in our state today. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the new government and especially to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. We sincerely hope that the aspirations and dreams of the people of West Bengal will be fulfilled under the new leadership,” he said.

The coincidence of Rabindra Jayanti celebrations taking place on the same day as the swearing-in of the state’s new government gave the occasion added emotional and symbolic significance. Organisers and attendees described the day as one that reflected both Bengal’s rich cultural identity and the beginning of a new political chapter in the state.

The celebration concluded with collective renditions of Rabindra Sangeet and a message promoting harmony, culture, and hope for the future of West Bengal.
