Manipal Hospitals Hosts ‘Digestive Wellness Redefined’ Session, Launches Comprehensive Gastro Health Book in Kolkata

Kolkata, March 24, 2026: Manipal Hospitals Salt Lake Cluster hosted an insightful and impactful session titled “Digestive Wellness Redefined” at its Broadway facility in Salt Lake, marking a significant step toward raising awareness on gastrointestinal health. The event also witnessed the official launch of a comprehensive book on digestive wellness, developed by the Departments of Gastroenterology at its Broadway and Salt Lake units.

The newly launched publication is designed as a practical, easy-to-understand guide addressing the growing burden of digestive disorders in modern lifestyles. It covers a wide spectrum of topics including early symptoms, preventive strategies, advanced treatment options, and surgical interventions, aiming to bridge the gap between medical expertise and public awareness.

The session brought together a distinguished panel of leading gastroenterology experts, including Dr. Sujit Chaudhuri (Head, Medical Gastroenterology), Dr. Sudipta Ghosh, Dr. Sujoy Maitra, Dr. Debkumar Ray, Dr. Sanjoy Mandal, Dr. Arijit Singha Mahapatra, Dr. Kinshuk Dhar, Dr. Kushan Sengupta, and Dr. Abhishek Banerjee.

During the session, experts highlighted a worrying rise in digestive health issues driven by sedentary lifestyles, irregular eating patterns, elevated stress levels, and increasing consumption of processed foods. Conditions such as acidity, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), fatty liver disease, gastrointestinal infections, and colorectal disorders are becoming increasingly common—often remaining undiagnosed until complications arise.

The discussion emphasized the importance of early detection, timely medical consultation, and lifestyle modifications. Experts also shed light on advancements in minimally invasive procedures and complex gastrointestinal surgeries, which are improving patient outcomes and reducing recovery time.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sujit Chaudhuri stated,
“Digestive disorders are increasingly prevalent due to changing lifestyles and lack of awareness. Nearly one in five Indians is affected by some form of gastrointestinal issue, while fatty liver is impacting around 25–30% of the urban population. Early symptoms like persistent acidity, bloating, or altered bowel habits are often ignored, which can sometimes indicate serious underlying conditions. Through this initiative and our book, we aim to simplify medical knowledge, promote early diagnosis, and encourage preventive care alongside advanced treatment options.”

The interactive session saw active participation from attendees, who engaged directly with specialists to better understand digestive health management and prevention strategies.

This initiative reinforces Manipal Hospitals’ commitment to delivering world-class healthcare services in Kolkata and across the state, reducing the need for patients to seek specialized gastroenterology treatment outside West Bengal.

With the successful launch of “Digestive Wellness Redefined” and continued public engagement efforts, Manipal Hospitals aims to empower individuals with knowledge and access to expert care—paving the way for improved digestive health outcomes across the community.
