Kolkata, May 20, 2025: The 31st staging of the acclaimed play Dayabaddha (Bound by Duty) by Naihati Bratyajan, directed by Aritra Banerjee, captivated a packed auditorium at Madhusudan Mancha on Monday evening. The emotionally intense and socially resonant production drew high praise from audiences and was graced by numerous dignitaries, intellectuals, and cultural icons.
The play delves into profound philosophical themes, exploring the nuances of relationships, especially the concept of fatherhood. It challenges traditional notions, questioning whether biological ties alone define love and responsibility. Through powerful storytelling, Dayabaddha confronts societal expectations and moral dilemmas, offering a deeply reflective theatrical experience.
Veteran actor Partha Bhowmick received acclaim for his layered portrayal of the father—a role that embodied love, strength, and quiet emotional struggle. Debjani Singha, who played the mother, was also lauded for her compelling stage presence.
Enhancing the narrative’s emotional depth was the evocative stage design by Debashis Roy and a powerful soundscape crafted by Samir Sarkar, both of which contributed significantly to the production’s immersive experience.
The event witnessed the presence of notable figures including Raj Chakraborty, MLA of the Barrackpore Constituency, renowned filmmaker and producer, and celebrated actress Subhashree Ganguly. Their attendance, along with a host of esteemed academics, artists, authors, journalists, and public personalities, added to the evening’s grandeur.
More than just a theatrical performance, the evening became a platform for dialogue and reflection. With *Dayab
