Coochbehar, West Bengal: A poignant new film titled “Torsha Ekti Nodir Naam” is capturing hearts with its touching narrative centered around the river Torsha and the vibrant lives of fishermen living in its adjacent slum. The river, a lifeline in North Bengal, becomes the backdrop for a powerful story about displacement, childhood, and hope.
The film unfolds as the slum residents face a government eviction notice aimed at rehabilitation. Their fears of losing their livelihoods are confronted by an unexpected ally — Torsha, the young daughter of the District Magistrate, who intervenes in a tale of empathy and change.
Directed by Dipanwita Ghosh and creatively produced by Nirmalya Ghosh, the film explores themes of innocence that transcend caste, creed, and class. Scripted by Pulak Kumar Das and brought to life with dialogues by Das, Krishnendu Sannigrahi, Akash Sarkar, and Agniv Sumana, “Torsha Ekti Nodir Naam” urges viewers to view the world through a child’s lens.
The narrative follows Torsha and her friends, both in the slum and a top-notch school, portraying their playful escapades and thoughtful exchanges that take audiences back to their own childhood memories.
The cast includes Sudip Mukherjee, Dipanwita Ghosh, Lama Arindam Halder, and Krishnendu Chakraborty, with a talented ensemble of child artists such as Kavya Bhaumik and Gitashri Chakraborty.
