West Bengal Police Bust Counterfeit Goodknight Racket Across North & South 24 Parganas

Kolkata, January 5:
In a major crackdown on the sale of counterfeit mosquito repellent products, the West Bengal Police, in coordination with Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), conducted a series of raids across North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas, targeting retailers and units dealing in fake Goodknight LV refills.

The coordinated action—supported by GCPL’s investigation agency—marks a significant step towards curbing the circulation of spurious household insecticide products that pose serious risks to consumer health and safety.

Large-Scale Seizures Reveal Organised Counterfeit Network

Acting on actionable intelligence, police teams raided multiple retail outlets, stocking points, and a refilling unit suspected of manufacturing and distributing counterfeit Goodknight products. The operations led to the seizure of a substantial volume of fake materials, pointing to a well-organised and systematic operation.

In North 24 Parganas, authorities recovered a large cache from a refilling unit at Ali Haidar Road, Titagarh, including:

  • 2,540 finished twin-refill packs of Goodknight Flash (90 ml each)
  • 600 filled bottles and 1,860 empty bottles
  • 6,200 counterfeit labels and 6,500 packing boxes

Further seizures included:

  • 1,950 twin-refill packs from a stockist at NS Path, Titagarh
  • 500 packs from Mira Store, Khardah (supplier)
  • 67 twin-refill packs from Acharya Stores, Belgharia
  • 165 twin-refill packs and one machine combo pack from Maa Tara Bhandar, Panihati

In South 24 Parganas, police seized:

  • 569 twin-refill packs from Maa Basanti Bhandar, Kakdwip Station Road
  • 255 pieces, including loose packs, from Basanti Stores, Kali Mandir Road, Kakdwip

Legal Action Initiated

FIRs have been registered against the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Copyright Act, 1957. Authorities are now actively tracing the distribution channels and supply networks to prevent further circulation of counterfeit products across West Bengal and neighbouring states.

GCPL Reiterates Commitment to Consumer Safety

Commenting on the operation, Ashwin Moorthy, Chief Marketing Officer, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, said:

“The spread of counterfeit products across the country is a major concern for the FMCG industry. Counterfeits or look-alike products are not only illegal but also harmful and hazardous to human health. GCPL invests significantly in innovation and quality, and Goodknight—India’s market leader in home insecticides—is a testament to that commitment. Our continued collaboration with law enforcement, distributors, and consumers will act as a strong deterrent against manufacturers and sellers of duplicate products.”

Advisory to Consumers

GCPL has urged consumers to remain vigilant and purchase Goodknight products only from authorised sellers with a genuine sales invoice. Any suspected counterfeit products or retailers dealing in them can be reported to GCPL via care@godrejcp.com or the consumer helpline 1800-266-0007.

The operation sends a clear warning to counterfeiters and reinforces the joint resolve of law enforcement agencies and responsible corporates to protect consumer trust and public health.
