New Delhi, January 31, 2026:
State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector lender, on Friday announced the launch of ‘CHAKRA’—the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Sunrise Sectors, a strategic initiative aimed at enabling responsible and scalable financing for next-generation growth sectors critical to India’s economic transformation.

Aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, CHAKRA will function as a knowledge-driven ecosystem platform designed to strengthen project appraisal, enhance risk assessment capabilities, and develop innovative financing structures for technology-intensive and sustainability-focused sectors. The initiative comes at a time when sunrise sectors are projected to attract capital investment of over ₹100 lakh crore by 2030.

The Centre was inaugurated by Shri M. Nagaraju, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, in the presence of Shri Challa Sreenivasulu Setty, Chairman, State Bank of India. The event was attended by SBI’s Managing Directors, senior representatives from public and global banks, leading conglomerates, financial institutions, industry bodies, and key stakeholders from across the financial ecosystem.

Commending the initiative, Shri M. Nagaraju said, “The CHAKRA Centre of Excellence is a commendable initiative by State Bank of India. Its vision to serve as a coordinated platform for knowledge-sharing, project appraisal, capacity building, and evidence-based policy engagement will significantly accelerate India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”

CHAKRA will focus on eight high-impact sunrise sectors—Renewable Energy, Advanced Cell Chemistry and Battery Storage, Electric Mobility, Green Hydrogen, Semiconductors, Decarbonisation, Smart Infrastructure, and Data Centre Infrastructure. These sectors are emerging as key engines of India’s future growth and global competitiveness.

Speaking on the occasion, SBI Chairman Shri Challa Sreenivasulu Setty stated, “India’s long-term growth will be anchored in innovation, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing. Through CHAKRA, SBI is strengthening its institutional capability to understand emerging sectors, design specialised financing solutions, and collaborate with ecosystem partners to enable projects that contribute meaningfully to national development.”
He added that the initiative reinforces SBI’s leadership in new-age technologies and climate finance, while supporting India’s deeper integration into global value chains.

The Centre of Excellence will generate actionable outcomes through white papers, sectoral reports, knowledge series, industry roundtables, and policy dialogues, supporting informed decision-making for corporates, investors, and policymakers. It will also facilitate structured engagement with development finance institutions, multilateral agencies, NBFCs, start-ups, academia, and policy think tanks.

CHAKRA builds on SBI’s earlier Centre of Excellence for MSMEs at the State Bank Academy, further strengthening the bank’s role in fostering innovation-led, sustainable, and future-ready economic growth.
