Kolkata, October 16, 2025: Ola Electric, India’s largest EV manufacturer, has announced its strategic entry into the ₹1 lakh crore Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market with the launch of Ola Shakti — the country’s first fully indigenously designed, engineered, and manufactured residential BESS solution.
Powered by Ola’s cutting-edge 4680 Bharat Cells, Ola Shakti marks a major diversification for the company beyond electric mobility, paving the way for a new era of intelligent, on-demand energy storage for Indian homes, farms, and businesses.
With this foray, Ola expects its annual Gigafactory consumption for the BESS segment to scale up to 5 GWh, potentially surpassing its automotive consumption within the next few years. The BESS market in India, currently valued at ₹1 lakh crore, is projected to grow threefold to over ₹3 lakh crore by 2030.
Speaking on the launch, Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Ola Electric, said,
“India doesn’t face an energy shortage; it faces an energy storage opportunity. With Ola Shakti, we are turning that opportunity into energy independence. We have built world-class battery and cell technology for electric mobility — and now extend that innovation to homes. Ola Shakti is a natural next step for us as we leverage our existing 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production, and our nationwide distribution network to scale rapidly without incremental investment.”
Ola Shakti will be available in four battery configurations — 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh — priced at ₹29,999, ₹55,999, ₹1,19,999, and ₹1,59,999 respectively. These are introductory prices for the first 10,000 units. Reservations have begun today at ₹999, with deliveries scheduled to start from Makar Sankranti 2026.
Designed with a modular architecture for easy stacking and scalability, Ola Shakti offers up to 98% efficiency, zero maintenance, and automotive-grade safety. It supports instant 0 ms changeover, operates across 120V–290V, and is IP67-rated for dust and water resistance — making it suitable for India’s diverse climatic conditions.
Beyond its robust design, Ola Shakti integrates smart features for intelligent energy management, including real-time monitoring, Time-of-Day (ToD) scheduling, intelligent backup prioritization, remote diagnostics, and OTA updates.
With charging times as low as two hours and backup capacities of up to 1.5 hours at full load, the system can seamlessly power high-load appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, farm pumps, and induction cookers.
The launch of Ola Shakti marks a pivotal step in Ola’s long-term energy vision — expanding from residential storage to grid-scale applications, all powered by its indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell technology and Gigafactory infrastructure.
