Kolkata, 19 November 2026: Malabar Group, one of the world’s leading jewellery retailers, marked Children’s Day with celebrations across its 1,531 Micro Learning Centres (MLCs) in India. The programmes engaged nearly 60,000 children supported by the centres and were led by senior representatives of the Group alongside community leaders.
The events began with the distribution of sweets, followed by a series of interactive learning sessions aimed at fostering inclusion, confidence and holistic development. The MLCs, established to support underprivileged children who have been forced into labour or dropped out of school due to socio-economic constraints, provide one year of age-appropriate primary education to enable their transition back into formal schooling.
Parents, local leaders, police and health officials participated in the celebrations, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the initiative. Children took part in various activities designed to strengthen engagement and stimulate curiosity.
Each centre also provides daily nutrition—milk, fruits and eggs—to improve concentration and overall well-being. The teaching workforce comprises trained local graduates, maintaining a ratio of one teacher for every 40 children. To date, the MLC network has helped reintegrate nearly 30,000 children into mainstream education.
Speaking on the occasion, Malabar Group Chairman M. P. Ahammed emphasised the organisation’s focus on combining learning with nourishment. “A child learns better when they feel secure and cared for. Nutrition strengthens their ability to study, education gives them direction, and together they help shape a future where each child can support themselves with dignity. Our Micro Learning Centres reflect this belief and are a vital component of our wider CSR commitments,” he said.

The centres function under the Group’s Hunger Free World initiative, which distributes 1,05,000 food packets daily across India and also supports communities in Zambia and Ethiopia.
Malabar Group has invested over ₹356 crore in various social welfare programmes, positively impacting more than 17 lakh beneficiaries. Its key CSR focus areas include women’s empowerment, healthcare assistance, educational scholarships for girls, and the Grandma Home initiative that offers shelter and care to elderly women.
