Legal Aid Services Awards Postgraduate Diplomas, Unveils Commemorative Volume in Memory of Justice D.K. Basu

Kolkata, July 27: Legal Aid Services organised a prestigious certificate distribution ceremony for its Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling programme and unveiled a commemorative publication in memory of Justice D.K. Basu at Rotary Sadan, Kolkata, on Sunday evening.

The event was graced by several eminent members of the judiciary and academia, including former Supreme Court Judge Justice Indira Banerjee, former Calcutta High Court Judges Justice Subrata Talukdar and Justice Pradipta Roy, sitting Calcutta High Court Judges Justice Aniruddha Roy and Justice Chaitali Chatterjee Das, University of Calcutta Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ashutosh Ghosh, former Media Centre official Nitish Bhattacharya, and other distinguished guests.

According to Biplab Kumar Sarkar, Secretary of Legal Aid Services, 47 students of the organisation’s 12th batch were awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, conducted in collaboration with the University of Calcutta.

A commemorative volume honouring the life and legacy of Justice D.K. Basu was also formally released during the programme.

Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Justice Sudhendunath Mallik Memorial Award by the Kumud Sahitya Mela Committee to Justice Arunava Barua, former Judge of the Calcutta High Court and former Principal Secretary of the Judicial Department, Government of West Bengal, who currently serves as Chairman of Legal Aid Services.

The honour was presented by Molla Jasimuddin, Samarendu Chakraborty, Biswajit Pal, and other dignitaries in recognition of Justice Barua’s distinguished contribution to the legal and judicial fraternity.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting legal education, counselling, and access to justice while paying tribute to the enduring legacy of Justice D.K. Basu.
