Leander Paes Honoured with P.C. Chandra Puraskaar 2025 for His Stellar Contribution to Indian Tennis

Kolkata, 11 May 2025: Tennis icon Leander Paes was conferred with the prestigious 32nd P.C. Chandra Puraskaar at a glittering ceremony held on Sunday at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata. The award, instituted by the P.C. Chandra Group, celebrates excellence across diverse fields and commemorates the legacy of its founder, Shri Purna Chandra Chandra.

Recognised as one of India’s most respected honours, the P.C. Chandra Puraskaar carries a tax-free honorarium of ₹20 lakhs and is presented annually on the founder’s birth anniversary. Since its inception in 1993, it has acknowledged the contributions of national luminaries such as Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, veteran singer Asha Bhosle, Dr. Devi Shetty, Kapil Dev, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, boxer Mary Kom, and ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, among others.

This year’s recipient, Shri Leander Paes, has had a stellar career in tennis, boasting 18 Grand Slam titles and an Olympic bronze medal. Known for his enduring passion and pursuit of excellence, Paes has been a true ambassador of Indian sports on the global stage.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Uday Kumar Chandra, Managing Director of P.C. Chandra Jewellers, said, “It is our privilege to honour Shri Leander Paes for his unmatched contributions to sport.
