Kolkata, 8th August 2025: In a major boost to Eastern India’s gem and jewellery industry, HRD Antwerp Europe’s foremost authority in diamond and jewellery grading, education, and equipment—has officially opened its Kolkata office. This strategic expansion brings internationally trusted certification services directly to the region’s manufacturers, retailers, and consumers.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Ashok Bengani, President of the Calcutta Gems and Jewellery Association; Tom Neys, Global Marketing, Sales & Education Director, HRD Antwerp; and Ramakant Mitkar, Managing Director, HRD Antwerp India, along with prominent jewellers, exporters, and trade leaders.
Situated in the heart of Kolkata’s bustling gem and jewellery hub, the new facility will offer comprehensive grading services for both natural and lab-grown diamonds, as well as finished jewellery—eliminating logistical barriers and enabling faster, more efficient certification.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Bengani said, “Kolkata has always been a vital hub for jewellery craftsmanship and trade. HRD Antwerp’s arrival will empower local businesses and enhance consumer trust.”
Mr. Neys hailed India as one of the most dynamic markets for diamonds and jewellery, noting that the Kolkata expansion underscores HRD Antwerp’s commitment to precision, authenticity, and global standards. Mr. Mitkar added that the facility will make world-class certification “easier than ever” for Eastern India’s jewellers and exporters.
