In a major boost to India’s consumer durables manufacturing ecosystem, global electronics major Hisense has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India at Sri City, located in Andhra Pradesh. The world-class plant has been set up through a joint venture with Epack Manufacturing Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited.
Spread across a 10-acre campus within Epack Durable’s industrial park, the newly commissioned facility has been developed with an investment exceeding USD 30 million. The plant marks a significant milestone in Hisense’s India expansion strategy and aligns closely with the Government of India’s Make in India mission to strengthen domestic manufacturing.
Focus on Localised AC Manufacturing
Commercial production at the facility is set to begin from February 2026, with the plant exclusively manufacturing Room Air Conditioners (RACs) for the Indian market. Once fully operational, the unit will account for 100% of Hisense India’s RAC output, substantially enhancing localisation, supply-chain efficiency, and cost competitiveness.
Pilot production is already underway, with Phase 1 dedicated to manufacturing the brand’s flagship AC portfolio, including the F-Series, Eco Series, Intelli Perla Series, and the upcoming Intelli Pro Series. The installed annual capacity for this phase stands at 0.75 million RAC units.
Phased Expansion Plans
Hisense has outlined an aggressive scale-up roadmap for the facility:
- Phase 2 (Q2 FY27): Manufacturing expansion into washing machines (top-load and front-load).
- Phase 3 (Q3 FY27): Addition of LED television production lines.
This phased development will transform the plant into a diversified consumer appliances manufacturing hub.
Employment & Economic Impact
The facility currently employs around 500 professionals and is expected to generate nearly 1,500 jobs over the next 12–24 months. Recruitment is already underway across supply chain, finance, administration, technical, and skilled manufacturing roles.
Beyond domestic supply, the plant will also serve export markets, enabling faster distribution cycles and reducing import dependency.
Leadership Speak
Commenting on the inauguration, Pankaj Rana, CEO, Hisense India, said the facility represents a pivotal step in the company’s India journey, strengthening local production, quality control, and product customisation for Indian consumers.
Congratulating the partnership, Ajay Singhania, Managing Director & CEO, Epack Durable, noted that the collaboration combines Hisense’s global technology strengths with Epack’s manufacturing expertise, reinforcing India’s position as a preferred global production destination.
Strategic Shift to Integrated Manufacturing
Prior to this investment, Hisense India operated largely through an import-led and partner-supported production model. The Sri City facility marks the brand’s transition to a fully integrated local manufacturing presence, laying a strong foundation for long-term expansion in one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer durables markets.
