Kolkata, February 28, 2026: Godrej Agrovet Limited has announced the launch of TAKAI, a new multi-crop insecticide designed to protect farmers from destructive lepidopteran (caterpillar-type) pests and strengthen agricultural productivity in West Bengal.
Powered by Cyclapryn™ technology developed by ISK Japan, TAKAI delivers rapid feeding cessation and long-lasting pest control. The product has received label approval for Rice, Maize, Chickpea, and Soybean, while approvals for Cabbage and Chilli are awaited.
Addressing Bengal’s Key Crop Challenges
West Bengal, often referred to as the “Rice Bowl of India,” produces nearly 15 million tonnes of rice annually. However, pest infestations continue to threaten farm output and incomes:
- Rice: Yellow Stem Borer and Leaf Folder can cause 20–40% yield losses during severe outbreaks.
- Maize: Fall Armyworm damage ranges between 25–30%, escalating up to 60–65% in extreme cases.
- Soybean: Spodoptera litura and semiloopers reduce yields by 20–30%.
- Vegetables (Chilli & Cabbage): Pest attacks commonly lead to 15–30% losses.
Experts note that timely and effective pest management is critical, especially as pests, diseases, and weeds increasingly constrain productivity and food security in the state.

Targeted Protection Across Crop Stages
Rice, cultivated across Kharif, Rabi, and Summer seasons in warm and humid conditions, remains particularly vulnerable to pest attacks throughout the year.
- During the vegetative stage (15–30 DAT), Stem Borer attacks often go undetected.
- In the reproductive stage (40–60 DAT), both Stem Borer and Leaf Folder damage the crop by affecting plant growth and photosynthesis.
TAKAI is recommended at a dosage of 160 ml during both critical growth stages in rice. For other approved crops, a single 160 ml dosage is advised.
Leadership Perspective
N.K. Rajavelu, CEO – Crop Protection Business, Godrej Agrovet, said effective pest management is central to farmers’ success. He emphasized that TAKAI has been developed to offer rapid action and sustained control, enabling farmers to optimise input costs and secure stable, high-quality yields.
He further noted that the launch aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen its crop protection portfolio through research-driven innovation and strong on-ground engagement with farming communities.
Strengthening the Agri Ecosystem
The launch of TAKAI follows the introduction of maize herbicide ASHITAKA last year, reinforcing Godrej Agrovet’s commitment to building a more productive, resilient, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem through farmer-centric product development.

With TAKAI’s entry into the market, the company aims to equip farmers with advanced tools to combat persistent pest challenges and safeguard crop health across multiple seasons.
