ECL Concludes Annual Mines Safety Week 2025 with Grand Celebration in Asansol

Asansol, March 6, 2026: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) marked the grand finale of the Annual Mines Safety Week – 2025 with a formal closing ceremony held at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, reaffirming the company’s strong commitment to promoting a safe and responsible mining ecosystem.

The event celebrated the dedication and collective efforts of mining professionals in strengthening safety practices across the sector. Winners from various categories of ECL’s mines, PME Centres and VT Centres, along with private mines operated by West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), CESC Limited and Durgapur Projects Limited (DPL), were honoured for their outstanding performance during the safety week held from November 17 to 22, 2025.

The ceremony was graced by Ujjwal Tah, Director General of Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), as the Chief Guest, while Satish Jha, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Eastern Coalfields Limited, presided over the programme. Guests of Honour included Supriyo Chakraborty, Deputy Director General (DGMS – Eastern Zone), and Muralidhar Bidari, Deputy Director General (DGMS – Central Zone).

Senior leadership of ECL also attended the programme, including Niladri Roy, Director (Technical) – Operations; Md. Anzar Alam, Director (Finance); Gunjan Kumar Sinha, Director (HR); and Girish Gopinathan Nair, Director (Technical) – Project & Planning. Officials from DGMS, members of the Corporate Safety Board representing trade unions, area general managers, heads of departments, and representatives from various mining organizations were also present.

The programme began with the hoisting of the Safety Flag by the Chief Guest, symbolising ECL’s enduring commitment to the principle of “Zero Harm” and safe mining operations. This was followed by an inspection of exhibition stalls where innovative mining models and ideas were showcased by different ECL areas as well as participating organisations such as West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) and CESC Limited. The exhibits highlighted advancements in technological innovation, hazard prevention and environmentally responsible mining practices.

The event also witnessed enthusiastic participation from female employees, reflecting the growing role of women in the mining sector and their contribution to the industry’s progress.

With safety at the heart of its operational philosophy, Eastern Coalfields Limited reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture where every worker returns home safely. The closing ceremony of the Annual Mines Safety Week – 2025 served as a powerful reminder of ECL’s vision of building a safer, smarter and more responsible future for the mining industry.
