Kolkata, 30 May, 2025: In a powerful move to combat tobacco addiction, Desun Hospital has launched a new initiative titled “My Last Cigarette” ahead of World No Tobacco Day 2025. The campaign, which officially begins on 31st May, aims to provide emotional and medical support to individuals determined to quit tobacco.
The initiative encourages individuals to visit Desun Hospital and take a formal pledge to give up smoking and other forms of tobacco use. As part of the programme, participants will receive a ‘Certificate of Commitment’ and a keepsake memento. Those who remain tobacco-free for a week will also be awarded a complimentary healthcare package to support their recovery journey.
The campaign was formally introduced on 30th May during a panel discussion featuring leading medical experts from Desun Hospital. The panel included Dr. Sanjib Kumar Patra (Director, Cardiology), Dr. Sreya Mallik (Consultant, Medical Oncology), and Dr. Madhu Priya (Consultant, Pulmonology), with Dr. Sujoy Ranjan Deb (Medical Director) moderating the session.
Dr. Deb stated, “Quitting smoking is more than a medical decision — it’s a courageous step towards a healthier life. At Desun, we aim to support, not judge, those who choose to take this step.”
Speaking about the campaign, Ms. Shaoli Dutta, Group Director, Desun Hospital, said, “‘My Last Cigarette’ is about empowering individuals through care, empathy, and community support. This is not just an awareness drive — it’s a movement of healing.”
The campaign aligns with this year’s World No Tobacco Day theme announced by the World Health Organisation — “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.” Desun’s initiative adds a personal and local dimension to this global cause, aiming to reduce tobacco use and foster a healthier society.
