Kolkata, 11 August, 2025 :
The Bengal Obstetric & Gynecological Society (BOGS) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s health by launching a series of initiatives under the theme “Saving Women’s Lives: From Awareness to Action”. The announcement was made during its annual health awareness event in Kolkata, attended by members of its 1,200-strong network of gynecologists.
With a legacy spanning 89 years, BOGS aims to address barriers faced by women, particularly from underprivileged communities, in accessing preventive, reproductive, and essential healthcare services. The society will focus on turning awareness into actionable solutions through health education, early detection, and treatment.
Key initiatives include:
- Health awareness programs in Kolkata and suburban areas on preventive healthcare and early detection
- Free consultation and screening services such as:
- Blood tests for anemia and Thalassemia
- Free mammography for early breast cancer detection
- Free bone mineral densitometry to assess post-menopausal osteoporosis
- Free HPV DNA tests for early cervical cancer detection
- Distribution of 2,500 free doses of cervical cancer vaccine
These services will be offered throughout the year, with a focus on marginalized and underserved women and girls.
BOGS President Dr. M.M. Samsuzzoha stressed the importance of combining awareness with actionable healthcare measures. “Awareness alone is not enough. To make a real difference, we need to act — whether through early detection, treatment, or education,” he said.
Honorary Secretary Dr. Tulika Jha highlighted BOGS’s long-standing role in community health. “We continue to ensure women, especially from marginalized backgrounds, have access to the healthcare they need,” she said.
As a founding member of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI), BOGS has played a key role in shaping healthcare policies and advocacy at both regional and national levels. Through its drives, education programs, and campaigns, the society aims to empower women to take control of their health and inspire lasting improvements in public health outcomes.
