Kolkata, November 29, 2025: The 45th Annual National Conference of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROICON 2025) was successfully held from November 27–30, 2025, at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata. Recognized as one of Asia’s largest and most influential oncology gatherings — second only to the Indian Cancer Congress — the conference witnessed the participation of over 1,800 delegates and distinguished faculty members from India and across the globe, including the UK, USA, Canada, Europe, and ASEAN nations.
The four-day event provided a dynamic academic platform featuring keynote addresses, panel discussions, scientific presentations, hands-on workshops, and case-based learning sessions. The scientific programme emphasised cutting-edge developments in cancer care, including precision radiotherapy, personalized medicine, advanced imaging, and the integration of artificial intelligence in oncology. Special focus was also placed on patient-centric aspects such as survivorship, palliative care, quality of life, and oncological entrepreneurship.
Dr. Suman Mallik, Organising Chairman of AROICON 2025, highlighted the crucial role of radiation oncology in cancer management, stating that over 50% of cancer patients require radiotherapy during their course of treatment — whether as a primary curative modality, part of multimodal therapy, or for palliation. He cited findings from a recent UK-based survey showing that only 35% of eligible cancer patients could access radiotherapy, with fewer than 40% receiving treatment within the recommended two-month timeframe, underlining global challenges in timely access.
Addressing the Indian context, Organising Secretary Dr. Jyotirup Goswami noted that while significant strides have been made in bridging gaps in manpower and access to modern radiotherapy equipment over the last two decades, disparities in patient accessibility and waiting times persist. He emphasised the need for sustained investment, proper maintenance of existing infrastructure, skilled workforce development, and a stronger referral network to ensure equitable cancer care delivery across states.
A major attraction at the conference was the comprehensive medical exhibition, where leading companies showcased state-of-the-art radiotherapy technologies, imaging equipment, and innovative oncology solutions. Delegates had the opportunity to engage with emerging advancements shaping the future of cancer treatment in India.
AROICON 2025 reinforced India’s growing leadership in radiation oncology and its ongoing commitment to improving cancer care outcomes through innovation, collaboration, and patient-centric approaches.
