Kolkata, July 30, 2025 :
Reinforcing its commitment to preventive oncology, Apollo Cancer Centres (ACC) has unveiled ‘End-O Check’, a pioneering early screening and diagnosis program for endometrial and ovarian cancers—two of the most common gynaecologic cancers affecting women, especially those aged 45 and above.
End-O Check is a risk-based assessment program that includes diagnostic testing and symptom evaluation for women, with a particular focus on those in the postmenopausal age group. The goal: to detect cancer at an early, more treatable stage.
The “Silent Killer” in Focus
Ovarian cancer, often termed the “silent killer,” typically affects women between the ages of 55 and 64, with the average diagnosis age being 63. When detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 90%, making early diagnosis critical.
India is witnessing a sharp rise in cancer cases, projected to reach 1.57 million by 2025. Ovarian and uterine cancers remain among the top five cancers affecting women, with incidence rates reported at 4.6 per 100,000 for ovarian cancer and 2.5 per 100,000 for uterine cancer. Changing reproductive patterns, lifestyle habits, and increasing metabolic conditions have underscored the urgency for targeted early detection in high-risk groups.
Empowering Women with Early Intervention
“End-O Check is tailored to high-risk populations, promoting early detection, symptom awareness, and timely intervention,” said Mr. Dinesh Madhavan, President, Group Oncology & International, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. “It represents a strategic shift in cancer care from late treatment to early diagnosis and proactive management.”
Leading Experts Weigh In
Dr. Subrato R Debnath, Senior Consultant Gynae Oncology and Robotic Surgeon at Apollo Cancer Centre Kolkata, emphasized, “Endometrial cancer is rising in women over 45. Early detection offers a five-year survival rate of 96% for localized disease, but outcomes drop sharply when diagnosis is delayed.” He pointed to increasing rates of obesity, diabetes, early menstruation, late menopause, and PCOS as contributing factors.
Dr. Rashmi Chand, Consultant Radiologist, highlighted the role of imaging: “We’re using transvaginal ultrasonography (TVS) in End-O Check to detect subtle changes indicating early-stage ovarian or endometrial cancers. Early imaging interventions can drastically improve outcomes.”
Dr. Surinder Singh Bhatia, Director Medical Services, Eastern Region, added, “With End-O Check, we’re not just detecting we’re creating awareness, encouraging women to prioritize health, and ensuring equitable access to cancer diagnostics.”
