New initiatives focus on flexible earning options, enhanced safety and expanded income opportunities for drivers
National, October 29, 2026: Uber has unveiled a range of driver-first innovations at the third edition of Uber Pragati, aimed at making earning on its platform easier, safer and more rewarding for its 2 million-plus earners across India.
The new initiatives focus on greater flexibility, enhanced safety measures and expanded earning opportunities for drivers. Key highlights include flexible subscription passes, WhatsApp-based onboarding, emergency ambulance assistance and encrypted in-app video recording.
Aditya Kapoor, Director – Supply Operations, Uber India & South Asia, said the company aims to remain a preferred platform for flexible earning opportunities by providing drivers with greater freedom, industry-leading safety features and more ways to earn.
Easier Earning with Greater Flexibility
Uber has introduced Flexible Drive Pass, offering subscription options ranging from six hours to 180 days to meet the needs of both part-time and full-time drivers. Through Quickstart, drivers can now join the platform via WhatsApp, making the onboarding process simpler and more convenient.
The company’s Earn First, Pay Later feature allows eligible drivers to continue accepting cash trips within an additional credit limit, even when their balance runs out. Drivers can also communicate with riders through voice notes in the in-app chat. A simplified Driver App brings earnings, trip details and important updates together for easier access.
Enhanced Safety and Emergency Support
Uber has introduced ambulance assistance through its 24×7 Safety Line in partnership with Dial 4242. According to the company, the service was used 25 times in less than four months, helping riders and drivers access medical support following accidents.
The Record My Ride feature enables encrypted video recording during trips. Uber stated that the feature has already helped clarify a disputed incident involving a rider and a driver, assisting police in establishing the facts.
The company is also introducing Safety Content Flag, which identifies potentially inappropriate language in real time and prompts riders to reconsider messages before sending them. Drivers receiving inappropriate messages can cancel eligible trips without affecting their cancellation statistics.
Additionally, the in-app Driver Safety Hub brings essential safety tools and support together in one place, including options such as audio recording and trip-sharing.
Expanding Earning Opportunities
Uber is expanding opportunities for bike drivers beyond conventional rides. Bike Intercity enables trips between neighbouring towns and cities, while Uber Direct and Uber Parcel allow drivers to deliver business orders and personal packages.
For participating car drivers, Uber Pet provides an additional earning opportunity by allowing them to serve riders travelling with their pets. The company’s Refer & Earn programme also rewards drivers for bringing new earners onto the platform.
With these initiatives, Uber aims to strengthen its driver-partner ecosystem in India by improving convenience, enhancing safety and creating more flexible earning opportunities.
