BC Block Durga Puja, Salt Lake, Celebrates Its Golden Jubilee with a Unique Initiative Promoting Art, Inclusion and Community Spirit
Kolkata, October 10, 2026: In a heartwarming celebration of creativity, inclusivity and the spirit of Durga Puja, BC Block Durga Puja, Salt Lake, marked its Golden Jubilee with an extraordinary artistic initiative on Mahalaya morning. Around 60 children, including nearly 50 children with special abilities, came together to create a spectacular 250-foot-long hand-painted art wall at the BC Block Durga Puja Ground in Salt Lake.
The initiative transformed a monumental canvas into a vibrant celebration of Maa Durga, childhood and togetherness, highlighting the power of art to bring people together. Working in groups of 10–12, the young participants filled the wall with colours and imagination, creating an artwork that reflected the diversity of abilities and the importance of providing every child with an opportunity to express themselves.
For the children, the wall was more than an artistic project. It became a platform for self-expression, participation and recognition, reinforcing the message that creativity knows no boundaries and every child has the potential to inspire.
A Golden Jubilee Celebrating Inclusion
Speaking on the occasion, Debasish Saha, Chief Patron, Salt Lake BC Block Residents Association Durga Puja 2026, said, “Celebrating 50 years of BC Block Durga Puja is not just about honouring a glorious legacy; it is about reaffirming the values that bring our community together. This Mahalaya, the 250-foot-long hand-painted art wall created by our children, including children with special abilities, reflects the true spirit of Durga Puja—unity, compassion, creativity and inclusiveness.”
He added that the Golden Jubilee initiative was designed to convey a meaningful social message, emphasising that every child deserves recognition and the opportunity to participate in community life. The initiative, he said, was a tribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society.

‘Jiyon Kanthi’: Connecting Heritage with the Future
As BC Block Durga Puja celebrates five decades of cultural and community engagement, its Golden Jubilee theme, “Jiyon Kanthi” (জিয়ন কাঠি), reflects the ideas of life, revival and renewal.
Rooted in the relationship between nature, human civilisation and collective memory, the theme encourages greater awareness of environmental responsibility and the need to preserve natural resources for future generations. It also connects the puja’s rich cultural legacy with a renewed commitment to sustainability, humanity and collective responsibility.
The choice of Mahalaya morning added further significance to the initiative. As Bengal prepared to welcome Maa Durga, the children expressed the festive spirit through their artwork, turning the 250-foot wall into a symbol of hope, creativity and shared celebration.
Fifty Years of Tradition, One Message of Togetherness
For five decades, BC Block Durga Puja has remained an integral part of Salt Lake’s cultural and community life. Its Golden Jubilee celebrates this enduring legacy while embracing values that reflect the evolving spirit of society.
The 250-foot art wall stands as a defining highlight of the celebrations, bringing together approximately 60 young artists, including nearly 50 children with special abilities, in a collective expression of creativity and inclusion.
By placing children at the heart of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, BC Block Durga Puja has delivered a message that extends beyond the festival itself: every child deserves a platform, every ability deserves recognition, and meaningful community celebrations are those that leave nobody behind.
As BC Block Durga Puja enters this landmark year, the initiative serves as a reminder that the true spirit of Durga Puja lies not only in preserving tradition but also in strengthening humanity, celebrating diversity and building a more inclusive future.
