Abodh Samaj Organises Special Rakhi Bandhan Utsav at Canning Street in Ward No. 45
Kolkata, August 29, 2026: The spirit of love, harmony and brotherhood came alive in Kolkata as Abodh Samaj organised a special Rakhi Bandhan Utsav at Canning Street in Ward No. 45. The celebration highlighted the timeless bond between brothers and sisters while conveying a broader message of social harmony, unity and mutual respect.
Raksha Bandhan is traditionally celebrated as a festival symbolising the deep and emotional bond between brothers and sisters. Beyond the family relationship, the festival is also regarded as a symbol of affection, goodwill and brotherhood.
The celebration also recalled the historic social message associated with Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, who used the spirit of Raksha Bandhan to encourage people of different communities and religions to overcome divisions and come together in the spirit of unity and harmony.
The special programme at Canning Street was organised under the initiative of Abodh Samaj, with Tarakeshwar Dubey, Chairman of Abodh Samaj, serving as the chief organiser and coordinator of the event.
During the celebration, sisters tied rakhi on the wrists of their brothers, reaffirming their bond of affection, trust and togetherness. The brothers, in return, presented gifts to their sisters as a gesture of love and appreciation.
The event witnessed the participation of several prominent personalities and members of the community. Rajendra Rai, Janmejay Pandey, Ashok Pathak, Shyam Narayan Singh, Ratan Banik, Umakant Rai, Upendra Singh, and Satyaprakash Mishra, priest of the Calcutta High Court Club, were among those present at the programme, along with several other distinguished guests.
The gathering provided an opportunity for people to celebrate the emotional significance of Raksha Bandhan while reinforcing the values of love, mutual respect, social harmony and brotherhood.
The organisers emphasised that festivals such as Raksha Bandhan can play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening the bonds of friendship and goodwill within society.
