Major Setback for TMC in Howrah: Over 200 Supporters, Led by Md Imran, Join Congress

Howrah, July 15: In a significant political development in West Bengal, more than 200 Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters, led by social activist Md Imran alias “Tarzan” from Tikiapara, have joined the Indian National Congress. The Congress described the mass induction as a major boost to its organizational strength in Howrah.

The induction took place during the “Shaheed Minar Chalo & Mass Joining Programme” organized by the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Minority Cell in Ward No. 20. The event was presided over by State Congress Minority Cell President Shamim Akhtar.

Welcoming the new members, Shamim Akhtar said the Congress remains committed to the principles of democracy, secularism, social justice, and public service. He expressed confidence that Mohammad Imran and the newly inducted members would play a key role in strengthening the party at the grassroots and raising public issues effectively.

Several senior Congress leaders and workers, including Nemat Ali Junaid, Naushad Khan, Shahzad Anwar, Hasan Hussaini, Amjad Ali Ansari, Abdus Salam, and Mohammad Sarfaraz, were present at the event.

The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Minority Cell claimed that the large-scale induction would further strengthen the party’s political presence in Howrah and hinted that more leaders and supporters from other parties could join the Congress in the coming days.

As of the time of publication, the Trinamool Congress had not issued any official response to the Congress’ claims.
