Purba Bardhaman: The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed with great enthusiasm in Mangalkot of Purba Bardhaman district on Friday through a joint initiative of the Mangalkot Police Station and the Excise Department.
The programme began at around 10 a.m. with a public awareness rally led by Mangalkot Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IC) Laltu Ghosh. The rally commenced from the main gate of the police station, with police personnel and Excise Department officials carrying anti-drug banners and distributing hundreds of awareness leaflets among commuters and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted that drug addiction not only destroys individual lives but also has a devastating impact on families and society. They stressed the need for collective efforts to guide the younger generation towards a healthy, positive, and drug-free lifestyle.
Participants were encouraged to join the nationwide campaign as “Nesha Mukti Mitras” (Friends of a Drug-Free India) and strengthen the movement against substance abuse. Citizens were also advised to use the National Helpline number 14446 for assistance and counselling whenever required.
The programme concluded with participants taking an anti-drug pledge, reaffirming their commitment to building a healthy, aware, and drug-free India.:::
