126 IndusInd Bank ATM Security Guards Face Job Uncertainty; Statewide Protest Announced for June 20

Kolkata, June 1, 2026: Alleging the proposed termination of 126 security guards deployed across 43 IndusInd Bank ATMs in West Bengal, the Bengal Provincial Banks’ Contract Employees Association (BPBCEA) has launched a protest movement, raising concerns over job security and unpaid statutory dues.

According to the association, the affected security personnel, engaged through a security agency and its vendors, are facing removal from service with effect from July 1, 2026. The union further alleged that the workers have not received pending Central Minimum Wages, Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), and other statutory benefits since October 2020.

As part of its protest, BPBCEA staged a demonstration on Monday outside an IndusInd Bank branch in Kolkata’s Shakespeare Sarani area. Union representatives claimed that the move threatens the livelihoods of workers who have been serving the bank’s ATM network for over a decade.

The organization stated that many of the affected guards have worked diligently for 15 to 16 years, and any abrupt termination would push them and their families into severe financial and social hardship.

BPBCEA has urged IndusInd Bank authorities, the concerned contractors, and the administration to intervene immediately and ensure that the employees retain their jobs. The union has also demanded the release of all pending wages and the implementation of legally mandated benefits.

Speaking on the issue, BPBCEA General Secretary Syed Md. Sahabuddin said:

“If our demands are not met, a statewide sit-in protest and mass agitation will be organized on June 20, 2026, in front of all IndusInd Bank branches and ATMs across West Bengal.”

The development is expected to intensify discussions surrounding contract workers’ rights, job security, and compliance with labour welfare regulations in the banking support services sector.
