Manipal Hospitals East marked National Technology Day with the grand hosting of Robotic Summit 2026 in Kolkata, bringing together leading doctors, healthcare experts, technologists, and patients to highlight the growing impact of robotic-assisted surgery and precision-driven healthcare across Eastern India.
Held as a celebration of cutting-edge medical innovation, the summit positioned Manipal Hospitals East as “The Robotic Benchmark” while reinforcing its standing as East India’s largest robotic hospital network and robotic surgical programme.
The event witnessed the presence of several eminent medical and technology experts, including Chief Guest Dr. Sushmita Mitra, along with senior specialists from Manipal Hospitals East such as Dr. Kunal Sarkar, Dr. Sourav Datta, Dr. Vikash Kapoor, and several other renowned clinicians.
With more than 3,000 robotic surgeries successfully performed, over 30 expert robotic surgeons, expertise spanning 10-plus surgical specialties, and five advanced robotic systems operational across Kolkata hospitals, the healthcare network showcased how robotic-assisted procedures are revolutionizing patient care through enhanced precision, minimally invasive techniques, reduced complications, and significantly faster recovery times.
A major highlight of the summit was the launch of dedicated robotic doctor badges, recognizing specialists contributing to the advancement of robotic-assisted surgeries across multiple disciplines. The hospital group also announced a special Robotic Workshop scheduled for June 2026, aimed at increasing awareness and collaborative learning among doctors, corporate leaders, and media professionals regarding next-generation surgical technologies.
Speaking at the summit, Dr. Sushmita Mitra emphasized the growing integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, medical imaging, and robotic systems in modern healthcare. She stated that robotic-assisted technology is not only improving surgical precision and patient safety but also transforming the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of complex diseases through intelligent healthcare systems.
Highlighting advancements in robotic cardiac procedures, Dr. Kunal Sarkar said robotic heart surgeries are redefining minimally invasive cardiac care by allowing surgeons to perform highly delicate procedures with smaller incisions, less pain, minimal trauma, and quicker patient recovery.

On the oncology front, Dr. Sourav Datta explained that robotic-assisted cancer surgeries have significantly improved accuracy in complex tumour removal procedures while reducing blood loss, infection risks, and post-operative discomfort. He added that robotic oncology is witnessing increasing adoption across gastrointestinal, thoracic, gynaecological, and urological cancer treatments.
Discussing robotics in orthopaedics, Dr. Vikash Kapoor revealed that more than 1,500 robotic knee replacement surgeries have already been successfully performed at Manipal Hospitals EM Bypass within just two years. According to him, robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery is delivering better implant alignment, quicker rehabilitation, shorter hospital stays, and improved long-term mobility for patients suffering from chronic joint conditions.
As robotic-assisted healthcare rapidly evolves in India, Manipal Hospitals East continues to focus on expanding access to technology-driven treatment and building one of the country’s most advanced precision healthcare ecosystems.
Today, Manipal Hospitals operates a nationwide network of 49 hospitals across 24 cities with over 12,600 beds and serves more than 8 million patients annually, making it one of India’s leading healthcare providers in advanced and affordable medical care.
