Kolkata, March 14: Kolkata witnessed the curtain raiser of the maiden edition of ‘0DB – Zero Decibel’, a first-of-its-kind multi-week live band competition organised by One SIP Gastropub in association with 91.9 Friends FM, aimed at revitalising Bengal’s iconic independent band culture. The launch event brought together some of the most prominent figures from the Bengali rock fraternity, marking the beginning of an ambitious platform for emerging musical talent.
The event was attended by leading personalities from the city’s music circuit, including Siddhartha Ray (Sidhu), vocalist of the iconic band Cactus; Gaurab Chatterjee (Gaboo), drummer of Lakkhichara; and Indrajit Dey (Indra), noted music composer and former keyboardist of Fossils. They were joined by Suvendu Roy, curator of the initiative, who shared the vision behind creating a platform dedicated to nurturing independent music.
Conceptualised by Suvendu Roy and Moitryee Bhattacharjee from One SIP, 0DB – Zero Decibel has been designed as more than just a band competition. The initiative seeks to evolve into a vibrant cultural movement where unheard music finds its voice and emerging as well as corporate bands get an opportunity to perform before a wider audience.
The competition will run over several weeks and is expected to energise Kolkata’s youth culture while attracting music enthusiasts, influencers and members of the city’s thriving live-music community. Organisers believe the platform will gradually become a significant fixture in Kolkata’s entertainment calendar.

Speaking on the occasion, Suvendu Roy, Curator of 0DB, said the initiative aims to create a lasting ecosystem for new musical talent. “0DB – Zero Decibel marks the beginning of what we hope will become a long-standing platform for emerging musical talent. While this is only the maiden edition, we envision many more editions in the years to come, each strengthening the spirit of Bengal’s legendary band culture and creating a renaissance for fresh voices in the independent music scene,” he said.
The competition will culminate in a grand finale on May 23 at Nazrul Mancha, where the winning band will be crowned after weeks of performances and audience engagement.
