Kolkata, 11 February 2026: Strengthening its commitment to innovation-led education and future-ready skill development, Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Institute of Technology & Sports Complex (SurTech), a JIS Group educational initiative, inaugurated a state-of-the-art AICTE IDEA Lab at its Kolkata campus on Wednesday.
The lab was formally inaugurated by Sardar Haranjit Singh, Joint Managing Director, JIS Group, in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Saradindu Panda, Principal, SurTech; Prof. Neeraj Saxena, Pro-Chancellor, JIS University; Prof. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, JIS University; along with senior academicians, faculty members and industry representatives.
Envisioned as a dynamic hub for innovation, the AICTE IDEA (Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship and Augmentation) Lab aims to foster design thinking, creativity, problem-solving and hands-on technical skills among students. The initiative aligns closely with national missions such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, enabling learners to convert ideas into functional prototypes and scalable technology solutions through experiential and interdisciplinary learning.
The facility houses advanced fabrication and development infrastructure, including dedicated Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, IoT & Robotics and PCB Design laboratories. Students will have access to sophisticated equipment such as CNC and laser cutting machines, 3D printers, PCB prototyping systems, lathes, welding units and embedded development platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi and NodeMCU.
Addressing the gathering, Sardar Simarpreet Singh, Director, JIS Group, said, “The inauguration of the AICTE IDEA Lab at SurTech marks a significant stride in our continuous endeavour to build an ecosystem where innovation is not just encouraged but engineered. By equipping our students with cutting-edge infrastructure and experiential learning opportunities, we are nurturing a generation of thinkers, creators and entrepreneurs who will drive indigenous technology development and contribute meaningfully to the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
The launch underscores JIS Group’s broader vision of strengthening industry collaboration, promoting entrepreneurship and empowering students to evolve from job seekers into job creators in India’s rapidly advancing technology landscape.
