Ranchi, Jharkhand | January 19, 2026:
Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BIT Mesra) has formally announced its academic collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur for the International Conference on Frontiers in Surface Engineering & Additive Manufacturing (FSEAM 2026). The three-day international conference will be held from January 21 to 23, 2026, at the Kalidas Auditorium, IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal.

FSEAM 2026 is envisioned as a high-impact global forum bringing together leading minds from academia, industry, and research institutions to deliberate on emerging trends and innovations in surface engineering, additive manufacturing, hybrid processing technologies, and advanced materials. The conference will place a strong emphasis on sustainability through engineered surfaces and additive innovation, reflecting the evolving demands of modern manufacturing and materials science.

The event is jointly organised by the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, and BIT Mesra, with active participation from national and international experts working at the cutting edge of research and industrial applications.

Highlighting the academic and professional significance of the conference, Prof. (Dr.) Indranil Manna, Vice-Chancellor, BIT Mesra, stated:

“When students engage directly with experts working on wear, durability, process control, sustainability and other such core functions, they begin to understand how theory translates into engineering decisions.”

The conference will be held under the patronage of Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur, and will feature a distinguished lineup of eminent scientists, academicians, and industry leaders. Notable attendees and invited speakers include Dr. Shivaji Chakraborty, President, West Bengal Academy of Science & Technology (WAST India); Dr. Narendra B. Dahotre, Regents Professor, University of North Texas; Dr. S. Somnath, former Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO); Mr. J. D. Patil, President, Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE); and Prof. B. S. Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad.

With its multidisciplinary scope and international participation, FSEAM 2026 aims to serve as a robust platform for the presentation of cutting-edge scientific advancements, in-depth technical discussions, and meaningful collaborations that bridge academic research with real-world industrial applications, while nurturing industry-ready future engineers and researchers.
