The magic word is Biryani. South Kolkata’s Baghajatin neighbourhood witnessed the grand arrival of one of the city’s fast-growing and much-loved food brands, Biryani & Beyond, with the launch of its newest outlet on Raja Subodh Chandra Mallick Road on New Year’s Day.
Biryani holds a special place in the hearts—and palates—of Bengalis. The irresistible aroma of a steaming plate of royal biryani is an emotion in itself. Honouring the long-standing demand of local residents, the brand marked the beginning of the New Year by bringing its celebrated flavours to Baghajatin. The inauguration saw the presence of Biryani & Beyond founder, Susmita Saha, who stood firmly beside the new outlet’s entrepreneurs, Lakshmi Dutta Gupta and Rinku Basu, applauding their journey as women entrepreneurs. This Baghajatin outlet marks the fourth outlet of the Biryani & Beyond brand.
Speaking at the launch, women entrepreneurs Lakshmi Dutta Gupta and Rinku Basu highlighted a growing concern in the food industry.
“While biryani’s popularity continues to rise, compromises in quality and portion size are slowly eroding the heritage of this royal dish,” they said. “With Biryani & Beyond, we are committed to preserving the authenticity that has earned the brand immense goodwill across Kolkata. Brand founder Susmita Saha echoed the sentiment, stating,

The menu at the new Baghajatin outlet features an indulgent spread, including Mutton, Chicken, Egg and Potato Biryani, along with the Classic Biryani, known for its generous portions. Complementing the biryanis are flavourful sides such as Chicken Kosha and Chicken Chaap, making for a perfect pairing. The royal meal is rounded off with traditional Mughlai Firni, Raita, and fresh Salad, ensuring a complete gastronomic experience.
