India’s health insurance market is undergoingl a decisive transformation, driven by preventive healthcare awareness, rising digital adoption and growing senior citizen coverage, according to Care Health Insurance’s Annual Trends Report 2025.
The report highlights a 27% surge in insured members between underwriting years 2023–24 and 2024–25, reflecting heightened consumer awareness amid rapidly increasing healthcare costs.

Young Buyers Lead, Senior Coverage Grows
First-time buyers aged 18–35 years account for over 30% of policyholders in FY 2025–26, indicating strong participation from India’s young workforce. At the same time, coverage among senior citizens (60+ years) has risen to nearly 14%, signalling growing demand for age-specific health protection.
Families are also opting for higher coverage, with the average Sum Insured for children (0–17 years) rising by over 7% in the last financial year.
Lifestyle Diseases Dominate Claims
Claims data reveals a sharp rise in dengue, malaria and seasonal flu, along with lifestyle-related conditions such as respiratory illnesses, cardiac ailments, cancer and arthritis. This trend highlights the increasing burden of lifestyle diseases and age-related healthcare needs.
Digital Becomes the Default
Digital engagement has emerged as the preferred mode of interaction. High-intent website visits have more than doubled over the past three years, while online renewals have increased by nearly 10%.
App-based services are witnessing rapid adoption, with around 30% of claims filed through Care Health’s mobile app and over 15% of renewals completed digitally in the past year.
Preventive wellness is also gaining traction. Usage of the step-tracking feature on the Care Health app has increased 2.5 times, allowing customers to earn renewal discounts through healthy lifestyle choices.
Shift Toward Comprehensive Health Security
Consumers are increasingly opting for holistic health coverage, including top-up plans, OPD benefits, teleconsultation, home care services, wellness programs, and access to a wide cashless hospital network.
The report underscores a clear shift in India’s health insurance behaviour—from reactive protection to preventive, digital-first and comprehensive health planning.
