A Grand Cultural Confluence Celebrating Heritage, Community and Folk Traditions
Kolkata, 28 December:
Kolkata is all set to immerse itself in the royal hues, vibrant rhythms and timeless traditions of Rajasthan as Marudhar Mela unfolds on 28 December, promising a spectacular celebration of culture, heritage and community spirit. Organised by Marwari Sanskrit Manch under the dynamic leadership of Vikash Poddar, the mela aims to bring the soul of Rajasthan to the cultural capital of Eastern India through an evening of art, food, folk performances and immersive experiences.
Envisioned as a celebration that transcends geography, Marudhar Mela will present a rich tapestry of Rajasthan’s cultural legacy—ranging from its colourful folk traditions and traditional art forms to its iconic cuisine and storytelling expressions. The event is expected to attract a massive footfall of 5,000 to 7,000 visitors, making it one of the most anticipated cultural gatherings of the season in Kolkata.
A major highlight of the evening will be a specially curated cultural programme by Kkhubii, a contemporary creative and cultural platform incubated by IIM Bangalore and NSRCEL Mumbai. Under the leadership of Shrestha Ganguly, Kkhubii has carved a unique identity by blending traditional cultural narratives with modern artistic expression. Known for its innovative approach to cultural storytelling and community engagement, Kkhubii’s curation for Marudhar Mela promises to offer audiences a deeply engaging and meaningful cultural experience.
Adding grandeur to the evening will be a spellbinding performance by renowned dancer Avirup Sengupta and his troupe. Their specially designed Rajasthani folk dance performance will showcase the energy, rhythm and storytelling depth of Rajasthan’s vibrant folk traditions. Through dynamic movements, colourful costumes and rhythmic music, the performance is expected to transport the audience straight to the deserts and royal courts of Rajasthan, leaving them mesmerised.

Beyond performances, Marudhar Mela will offer visitors a holistic cultural journey. Stalls featuring authentic Rajasthani cuisine, traditional handicrafts, folk art and cultural exhibits will allow attendees to experience the richness of Rajasthan’s lifestyle and heritage up close. Designed as a family-friendly event, the mela promises something for visitors of all ages—making it both an entertaining and educational cultural experience.
More than just a festival, Marudhar Mela stands as a celebration of identity, roots and shared heritage. It reflects the commitment of Marwari Sanskrit Manch to preserving and promoting cultural traditions while fostering unity and cultural exchange in a cosmopolitan city like Kolkata. With the combined vision of Vikash Poddar, the creative excellence of Kkhubii under Shrestha Ganguly, and the artistic brilliance of performers like Avirup Sengupta, the mela promises an unforgettable evening of colour, culture and collective joy.
As Kolkata opens its arms to the spirit of Rajasthan, Marudhar Mela is poised to become a landmark cultural celebration—bringing together tradition and modernity, community and creativity, and above all, the enduring magic of Indian heritage.
