The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Taratala, Kolkata, concluded one of West Bengal’s biggest and most spirited Cake Mixing Ceremonies, celebrating the festive season with a powerful message — honouring women as the “Pink Force of Society.”

This year’s theme spotlighted women’s contributions across homes, workplaces and communities. Leading the grand cake mixing ritual were distinguished women from diverse professions including hoteliers, doctors, educators, police officers, media personalities, school principals and faculty. Tons of dry fruits, spices and festive beverages were blended together, symbolizing unity, empowerment and the joy of giving.

Adding a refreshing twist to tradition, the ceremony introduced a Lady Santa, representing the idea that kindness, generosity and celebration transcend gender. Her presence was warmly applauded, reinforcing the significant roles women play as leaders, caretakers and changemakers.

The ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree was conducted by Smt. Nandini Chakravorty, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Home & Hill Affairs, Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism Departments, Government of West Bengal & Hon’ble Chairperson, Board of Governors, IHM Taratala. The illumination officially ushered in the festive spirit on campus.

The celebration featured lively carol performances by student singers, with a Bengali Christmas carol standing out as a delightful cultural highlight. Students from city schools joined in the festivities, participating in fun-filled cookie and muffin decoration activities—helping build stronger connections between young learners and the hospitality sector.

The event also featured an impressive bakery exhibition by IHM Taratala’s budding chefs, showcasing matcha and strawberry pastries, roasted pumpkin-spiced mousse, assorted berry pies, and a delectable array of festive desserts.

Every aspect of the programme—from décor and logistics to guest reception and entertainment—was planned and executed by the institute’s hospitality management students under faculty mentorship, offering them hands-on professional experience in event operations.

With music, lights, women achievers and student excellence at the forefront, IHM Taratala’s Cake Mixing Ceremony reaffirmed its stature as a major pre-Christmas cultural attraction in West Bengal.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Raja Sadhukhan said,
“This celebration reflects the essence of hospitality, unity, creativity, and shared joy. I am immensely proud of our students and members of the institute for executing such a large-scale event with professionalism and passion. Their efforts, combined with the participation of women achievers from across society, made this year’s ceremony truly memorable.”

The grand celebration successfully blended festive cheer with social acknowledgement, continuing IHM Taratala’s legacy of innovative and inclusive festivities.
