In a grand felicitation ceremony held at a hall in Dharmatala, Kolkata, the All India Legal Aid Forum on Wednesday evening honored Justice Indraprasanna Mukerji, former Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, for his distinguished service to the Indian judiciary.
The event witnessed the presence of eminent personalities from the legal fraternity, including Justice Samapti Chatterjee, Justice Deepak Saha Ray, and Samarendu Chakraborty, Chief Legal Trainer at the Kolkata Police Training Centre. Several prominent advocates also attended the ceremony, among them Kalyan Chakraborty, Sanjay Bardhan, Suranjan Dasgupta, Swagata Dutta, and Gorachand Ray Chowdhury.
Speaking on the occasion, Jaydeep Mukherjee, General Secretary of the All India Legal Aid Forum, lauded Justice Mukerji’s exceptional contributions to the Indian judiciary. “Justice Indraprasanna Mukerji has played a pivotal role during his long tenure as a Judge of the Calcutta High Court, delivering many important and far-reaching judgments. His elevation as the 13th Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court brought immense pride to the Bengali community,” Mukherjee remarked.
As part of the program, the Kumud Sahitya Mela Committee conferred the prestigious ‘Sudhendranath Mallik Ratna’ award on Justice Mukerji. The award, named after the late Justice and poet Sudhendranath Mallik of the Calcutta High Court, recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to the field of law and literature.

Justice Indraprasanna Mukerji, in his address, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honor and emphasized the vital role of legal aid in ensuring access to justice for all. He also highlighted the importance of judicial integrity and social responsibility in upholding the rule of law.
The felicitation concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a memorable evening that celebrated both the legacy of judicial excellence and the spirit of service that defines India’s legal community.
